Putin and Lukashenko hold telephone conversation on war in Ukraine and traffic to Kaliningrad

The presidents of Russia and Belarus, Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko, respectively, held a telephone conversation on Monday in which they discussed developments in the framework of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the possibility of jointly “responding” to restrictions on the transit of Russian goods to Kaliningrad.

The leaders, who have also discussed the “post-Soviet space” and the energy issue in the wake of sanctions imposed by the European Union over the war in Ukraine, have emphasized the importance of defending the Union State, the supranational entity of Russia and Belarus.

Also, the Kremlin has specified that they have underlined the “illegal restrictions imposed by Lithuania on the transfer of goods and have weighed possible responses to their scope.”

The parties have used the occasion to talk about strengthening bilateral relations and partnership between the two countries, while agreeing to remain in close contact.
