As promised, Nothing P, founded by Carl Pei (co-founder of OnePlus), has released the first sample for its new operating system, Nothing OS. It comes in the form of an Android launcher, compatible with phones like Galaxy S21, Galaxy S22, Pixel 5 and Pixel 6 from Samsung and Google. It demonstrates, at a basic level, how the interface of its first smartphone, Nothing phone (1), will look and work.
Nothing OS comes with changes to the Android interface
Unfortunately, the Android launcher from Nothing is not available in the Play Store in Romania, but the apk can be downloaded and installed separately from the Google store. Thus, you can test this new interface, inspired by the electronic devices of the 80’s and 90’s, with digital dotted displays.
After installation, the launcher must be configured manually from the phone’s settings menu, replacing the Pixel Launcher or the OneUI interface. The differences from Google’s stock “Android” are not great in terms of functionality, but the aesthetics of the launcher seems to be very important. There is also a package of icons, which will replace the standard ones, in order to achieve a “look” as uniform as possible with the original vision from Nothing, as well as a package of widgets.
One of the most interesting changes, however, is the ability to resize the applications on the screen. You can have icons of normal size, but also some of larger size, for quick access. You can also make some larger folders, to see more easily which applications are included in them.
Nothing OS, with changes in the functionality of the Android operating system, but also with new functions, which are not possible with a simple launcher, will be launched during the summer, along with Nothing phone (1).
