Tesla has released the first video clip inside the Gigafactory in Berlin on its YouTube channel. It is filmed with a small FPV drone, which can penetrate even inside the robots used to assemble certain components, but also on the assembly lines where the company’s technicians work manually to finish the machines. The clip is just over two minutes long and is impressive to watch.
The drone footage is impressive, reaching the most unexpected places in the Tesla factory.
The Tesla plant in Berlin was just opened just a few days ago, and the first cars assembled there have already been delivered to customers, with Elon Musk present at the opening ceremony to personally hand over the car keys. This is Tesla’s first factory in Europe and was opened after many delays and protests.
Filming from the drone starts outside the factory, where multiple Tesla cars can be seen, probably from the factory, which go on the adjacent streets, but soon reach the interior, where they enter the warehouse. The most impressive images are those in which the drone passes through the presses that are used to stamp the body, where the slightest pilot error could have destroyed the drone instantly.
This is a kind of unconventional virtual tour, filmed in a fairly recently discovered way. FPV drones appeared on the market less than 10 years ago and are still a niche in the field of drones. They are small in size, often built using DIY parts and kits. There are also pre-assembled models for sale for those who want to enter the field without knowledge of electronics, soldering on motherboards or connecting cables, but also larger FPV drones, such as the FPV model from DJI, which can reach a speed of 130 km / h.
These drones are generally more difficult to pilot than “traditional” models, as they do not come with safety systems or proximity sensors. The driver is in full control of the device, including altitude, which is not automatically maintained by the software. This is also the one that allows such precise handling in very small places.
