Despite poor sales in the market, Sony does not seem to want to give up its line of Android smartphones, Xperia. Every year, the company brings flagships with updated hardware specifications, which apparently have a limited audience, but very loyal. And for this audience, Sony seems to bring some specific capabilities every year, which you can’t find on other devices. The first information about the Xperia 1 IV, Sony’s next flagship, has already reached the internet, and it seems that it will continue in the same direction as in the last few years.
Xperia 1 IV does not appear much changed in the first unofficial photos
According to OnLeaks, the new phone will be very similar in design to the last few models. We are talking about a device with a very high screen, 21: 9 format, without cuts of any kind. Sony has always preferred to leave edges above and below the display, rather than resorting to hole-punch or notch. We can expect an OLED screen with 4K panel at 120 Hz, similar to what we saw in the past.
All the physical buttons seem to stay on the right side, with a double volume button, a Power button that seems to be located in the middle of the device, which benefits from an integrated fingerprint sensor and a dedicated button for photo and video capture. Sony Xperia is one of the phone lines that emphasizes the photo component, using Sony sensors and optics from ZEISS. As in the past, we are dealing with three cameras, possibly with the zoom camera offering variable focal length, as in the case of the Xperia 1 III.
What Sony offers and we don’t see on many other flagships in recent years is a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is also kept on this model.
However, the hardware configuration is a “normal” one for 2022 in the “ultra-premium” area: Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, 16 GB of RAM, 5,000 mAh battery and fast charging at 45W. If Sony keeps the past release schedule, the phone will probably be announced in May, with a summer release, probably in July. If it keeps the price of previous models, we can expect a price of 1,300 euros.
