That’s exactly the thought process Smart Ape Tech seems to have had, as the technology company has now unveiled plans to debut an AI companion device that will serve as a growing, adaptive, constantly available partner.

Known as the Euvola Emotional AI Companion Device, it is essentially a screen that sits on a speaker with an AI that can supposedly deliver real empathy and has a lifetime of emotional memory. The AI even has customization elements and a voice and likeness that is described as familiar, and the product’s goal is to overcome loneliness simply by providing someone people can talk to.

The gadget is said to have no camera, no ads, no extra fluff, just a way to connect and talk to the AI companion it houses. It is supposed to learn and grow with you as you spend more time communicating with it, and will even remember recent events and check in with you the next day.

Currently, the product is not a reality as Smart Ape is looking for backers to make it a reality on Kickstarter. Currently, 68 people have backed the project and raised more than £11,400, which is enough to reach the goal, with no stretch goals currently noted.
