Macron asks Abiy to guarantee access to humanitarian aid in Ethiopia and to bet on dialogue

MADRID, Feb. 17 (Royals Blue) –

The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, met this Thursday with the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed, to whom he conveyed the need to guarantee access for humanitarian aid to the most disadvantaged areas of the country, as well as the importance of bet on political dialogue to resolve the conflict in the African country.

Both leaders have met in Brussels on the sidelines of the summit between the European Union and the African Union, held these days in the Belgian capital.

Thus, Macron has conveyed his respect for the ceasefire in Ethiopia and has called for the implementation of measures to restore confidence in the country, at the same time that he has highlighted the work of the High Representative of the African Union (AU) to the Horn of Africa, Olusegun Obasanjo, as a mediating figure, according to Eliseo sources.

On the other hand, the French president has valued the recent “openness signs” seen in Ethiopia, especially with regard to the release of some prisoners, the lifting of the state of emergency or the facilitation of the delivery of humanitarian aid .

However, he has urged Abiy to implement new measures, regarding whose implementation he has assured that he will remain vigilant. Finally, he has shown himself willing to support the reconstruction of Ethiopia through this dynamic that the Elysee has described as encouraging.
