Norway likely to approve controversial deep-sea mining practices -.

After securing cross-party support by the end of 2023, it appears Norway is just about ready to approve the controversial practice of deep-sea mining on a commercial scale, making it the first country in the world to do so.

The practice is so controversial because while it may help excavate metals that can be used for green technologies, it is also likely to disrupt the nature of the oceans. If Norway also goes ahead with this, it is likely that other countries could also get involved in the practice, which will only make things worse for ocean dwellers.

Right now the vote only covers Norwegian waters, but it is possible that we could reach agreement on international mining this year. The Norwegian government says it will be careful about mining, but that does not stop environmentalists from being concerned.
Thanks, BBC.
