AI may lead to extinction, according to researchers -.

The Center for AI Safety has released a new statement on AI risks, discussing the potential problems that could be caused by expanding our research into the new technology.

Researchers, policymakers, journalists and more collaborated on this statement, which says that “reducing the risk of extinction from AI must be a global priority alongside other societal risks such as pandemics and nuclear war.”

While this seems to paint a pretty bad picture of our future, some believe the statement is actually asking governments to intervene so that already established AI companies can keep a foothold. Unregulated AI development may cause some of the big names in technology to lose their current lead in the market, so perhaps there is more than just a plea for humanity’s safety in this statement.
