Islamic State launches large-scale attack on army positions in eastern Syria

The jihadist group Islamic State has launched a large-scale attack against Army positions in the province of Deir Ezzor (east), as reported by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, with no details on victims for now.

The agency, based in London and informants in the Arab country, has indicated on its website that the attack has been perpetrated against security posts in Al Busaira, Zeban, Al Hariyi and Al Suar, without the authorities having spoken.

The offensive coincides with the fighting in recent days in the Ghueiran prison, controlled by the Syrian Kurdish authorities and located in Hasaka province (northeast), which has resulted in more than 200 deaths.

The assault began on Thursday with two suicide bombings of trucks loaded with explosives detonated at the main gate and one of the prison walls, the Amaq news agency, affiliated with the jihadist group, reported.

For its part, the FDS assure that some 200 suicide bombers participated in the incursion, which they already consider the most important action of the group in the last three years, since in the prison there were some 5,000 suspected members of the Islamic State. About 800 would have managed to escape.
