The Government allocates 26.3% of the budget to Health, with 3,240 million for primary care

The Govern earmarks 26.3% of the budget to health policies, a total of €11.91 billion. Of these, 3.240 will be allocated to the primary care as a whole, and 7,980 million to specialized care.

However, the department’s budget exceeds $12.2 billion, with a 1,284 million increase compared to the 2022 accounts. Excluding the Next Generation funds, the increase is 11%. This increase will serve to improve the working conditions and remuneration of professionals, incorporating 4,370 people into the system, providing more resources to primary care (with an extra 279 million) and the mental health care, and reduce the waiting lists.

The budget provides for a 30 million increase of euros in the mental health resources, with a special focus on youth and children, as well as an additional $30 million to increase the endowment of the public health policies, with measures such as the increase of up to 485 professionals to the Agència de Salut Pública de Catalunya between 2023 and 2027. In addition, the following will be dedicated 50 million euros to reduce the surgical, diagnostic and outpatient waiting lists.

In addition to these, the priorities of the accounts also include incorporating new professional profiles into primary care teams; developing the Pla de Prevenció del Suïcidi 2021-2025, and to promote home care.

For its part, it is planned to allocate the 4.9% of the budget for system infrastructure and equipment. Specifically, the budget plans to promote investments in the hospitals of Vall d’Hebron, Trueta, Clínic, Parc Salut Mar, Tortosa, Vendrell, Calella, Blanes and La Seu d’Urgell.

Salut takes the 32.9% of the Generalitat’s overall budget increase. and 35.1% of the extra staffing (4,300 professionals).
