Ukraine confirms receipt of new $1.3 billion emergency IMF loan

Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denis Shmigal has confirmed that Kiev has received $1.3 billion (a similar figure in euros) in emergency financing from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the face of the war unleashed in February.

“The funds will be used to finance priority needs,” he has said, before detailing that these include “strengthening defensive capabilities, paying for pensions and social programs and supporting the economy.”

Thus, he has indicated in a message on his Telegram account that “in total, the IMF has delivered to the country $2.7 billion since the beginning of the full-scale war,” in decision to the invasion order given on February 24 by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“In the near future, I will start preparations for a new special program that will start next year. We thank the partners and allies for their unwavering support,” the Ukrainian prime minister concluded.
