Southeastern Greece records 5.1 magnitude earthquake, but damage unknown

A 5.1 magnitude earthquake has struck in southeastern Greece just after 1.00 a.m. Sunday, although no reports of damage or casualties have been released at this time.

The Institute of Geodynamics in Athens has reported that the tremor had its epicenter 13.3 kilometers below sea level in the Gulf of Corinth, about 100 kilometers from Athens, as reported by the Greek daily ‘Ta Nea’.

The earthquake lasted about 15 seconds and was felt particularly in Attica, but also in areas of Achaea, according to local media ‘Ethnos’.

The mayor of Delphi, Panagiotis Tagalis , has expressed in statements to ERTNEWS that he does not yet have a picture of the damage, but Fire Department vehicles have already been deployed in the streets as a precaution.
