Guinean opposition calls for mobilizations to demand the release of its detained party members

Guinea’s National Front for the Defense of the Constitution (FNDC), the opposition party, has called for peaceful mobilizations to demand the release of the FNDC national coordinator, the party’s chief of operations and “all political, opinion and activist leaders arrested and unjustly imprisoned.”

The party has set two rallies, on Tuesday, October 18 in the capital, Conakry, and on Wednesday, October 26 throughout the national territory, as reported by the local news portal ‘Media Guinee’.

This call comes after the government has ‘dissolved’ this party through the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Decentralization.

In the communiqué released, the FNDC demands the National Assembly and the Development Commission to satisfy its demands articulated in eight points, among which stands out the one referring to its members detained for political reasons.

Last August, the FNDC transferred to the International Criminal Court (ICC) a list containing the names of thirteen persons for their alleged role in the repression of the latest protests, including the leader of the military junta and transitional president, Mamady Doumbouya.

The list also incorporated the names of the Minister of Justice, Alphonse Wright; the Minister of Security, Bachir Diallo; the Minister of Territorial Administration Mory Condé; the Secretary General of the Presidency, Amara Camara; the Commander of the National Gendarmerie and Director General of Military Justice, Balla Samoura; and the Director General of the Police, Abdoulaye Sampil.

The last protests called between July 27 and 30 against the military junta to denounce the “arrogance” of the military authorities and their “systematic refusal” to open a “credible” dialogue to address the transition, ended with the denunciation by the opponents of “bloody repression and violations of Human Rights” during the mobilizations.
