King Charles III and Camilla reappear in public for first time after Elizabeth II’s funeral

King Charles III and Queen consort Camilla reappeared Monday for the first time at an event in public after the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, who died Sept. 8 at the age of 96 and 70 years of reign.

The now British royals have thus concluded the period of royal mourning for the death of the historic monarch, who after several days of tributes and processions was finally buried at Windsor Castle on September 19.

Charles III has gone to the Scottish town of Dunfermline, in the region of Fife, to confer on it officially the status of city, something that, he has said, “would gladden the heart” of his late mother.

Dunfermline is one of eight communities to be bestowed the honor as part of Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

During his speech, Charles recalled his mother’s “deep love” for Scotland and even claimed that it was “one of the pillars of her life”.
