Army kills 11 Al Shabaab members, regains control of town in central Somalia

The Somali Army has killed eleven suspected members of the Al Shabaab terrorist group as part of an operation in which it regained control of Buq Aqable district, located in the Hiiraan region (center).

The deputy commander of the 16th Battalion of the Danab special forces, Hassan Mohamed Osman, has confirmed the advances of the Somali forces, which represent the loss of a key position for Al Shabaab in this area of the country, as reported by the Somali news agency SONNA.

Somali authorities have stepped up offensives against Al Shabaab in recent weeks and the African country’s interior minister, Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, recently confirmed that Turkish-made ‘Bayraktar TB2’ drones are involved.

The Somali government last weekend of more than a hundred Al Shabaab militiamen killed and the recovery of towns that had been in the hands of the jihadist group for more than a decade. Also on Wednesday, the United States killed 27 Al Shabaab militiamen in an airstrike near Buulobarde, in the Hiiraan region.

Somalia is facing an increase in the number of attacks by the Islamist militia, linked to the Al Qaeda terrorist organization, both in the capital and other areas in the south of the country, which has prompted the president to promise a reinforcement of security operations to deal with the threat.
