Castillo swears in Peru’s new defense and transportation ministers

The President of Peru, Pedro Castillo, has sworn in Daniel Barragán as the new Minister of Defense, replacing Richard Tineo, who will move to the Ministry of Transport and Communications.

This new move in the Peruvian Executive follows the forced departure of Geiner Alvarado as Minister of Transport after the Parliament passed a motion of censure against him.

Barragan, a retired Armed Forces officer, participated in the last presidential elections as part of the government proposal presented by the Union for Peru Party (UPP), notes ‘La Republica’.

For his part, Tineo has assured that he is knowledgeable of the area now entrusted to him and has advanced his willingness to make some changes within the Ministry with the appointment of new vice ministers.

The inauguration ceremony was held at the Government Palace in Lima with only a few minutes notice, according to local media.

With these two changes, President Castillo has already sworn in a total of 72 ministers in the little more than a year that he has been in office. Specifically, in the Defense portfolio, four ministers have already been sworn in, and another five in the Transport and Communications portfolio.
