North Korea’s military denies exporting weapons to Russia

The North Korean Army has assured Thursday that it has never exported weapons to Russia and that it has no plans to do so, thus rejecting accusations of arms trade between the two countries.

“We have never exported arms or ammunition to Russia before and will not plan to export them. It is not sure where the rumor the U.S. is spreading originated from, but its aim is to tarnish the image of North Korea,” a senior commander of the country’s armed forces was quoted as saying by KCNA.

In this regard, Pyongyang condemned Washington for “thoughtlessly circulating” the alleged rumor against North Korea for the sake of “pursuing its basic political and military goal.”

“We warn the U.S. to stop making reckless remarks about North Korea and keep its mouth shut (sic),” the military high command has said.

Earlier this month, a U.S. State Department spokesman claimed that Russia may be in the process of procuring “millions of rockets and artillery shells” from North Korea, which would violate several United Nations Security Council resolutions related to Pyongyang, ‘Yonhap’ has learned.

However, North Korea has repeatedly criticized that it is “a sovereign state” with the ability to develop, produce, possess and export in weapons if it so chooses.
