Kremlin calls accusations of Russian war crimes in Izmir “lies”

The Kremlin has branded on Monday as “lies” the accusations of war crimes by Russian forces in the city of Izium, recently recovered by Ukrainian troops and where mass graves and “torture chambers” were allegedly found.

“It is the same scenario as in Bucha. Everything takes place according to a scenario. It is a lie,” Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said. “We will defend the truth in this whole affair,” he noted, as reported by Russia’s Interfax news agency.

Peskov already in April rejected accusations against the Russian Army in the killing of hundreds of civilians. On this occasion, the Ukrainian authorities have claimed to have found more than 400 graves and about ten “torture chambers” after the withdrawal of Russian forces from the area.
