Russia accuses Ukraine of attacking Russian town on common border

Russian authorities have announced that one person has died and two have been injured after the alleged shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces of the town of Valuiki, in the Russian region of Belgorod, near the common border.

“The Armed Forces of Ukraine have shelled Valuiki. Air defense systems have responded, although there has been some damage on the ground. According to preliminary information, one civilian has been killed. Two wounded are receiving medical assistance at the site,” Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov wrote on his Telegram channel and was picked up by TASS agency.

According to the head of the region, an electric substation in the city has been damaged as a result of the attack, disrupting electricity supply to residents.

In addition, eight private houses and three cars were reportedly set on fire as a result of the alleged Ukrainian attack on Valuiki, a town with a population of about 30,000.

“The nearby building of Valuiki RES (regional electricity network) and the facility’s personnel have not been damaged. At present, consumers are switching to backup power supply schemes,” the company said in a missive, the agency reported.
