Russia warns that ceding control of Zaporiyia to Ukraine would “condemn” the world to a “nuclear catastrophe.”

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned Thursday that handing over control of the Zaporiyia nuclear power plant to Ukraine would “condemn” the European continent and the world to “a nuclear catastrophe.”

“To say that this facility (Zaporiyia) can be transferred under the control of the Kiev regime, which controls nothing at all, is ridiculous,” the Russian representative added, as reported by the TASS news agency.

In addition, Zakharova stressed Russia’s position that Ukraine is using the Zaporiyia nuclear power plant as an element for blackmail and to create nuclear threats in the framework of the war.

Thus, he has urged the West to investigate the “provocations and false flag crimes” as it has done “in other parts of the world.”

Experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) warned on Tuesday that the current situation at this nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe, is “unsustainable,” but so far the parties have shown no signs of making major concessions and have accused each other of endangering the safety of the facilities.
