Energodar pro-Russian authorities claim “kamikaze drone” attack by Ukraine

The pro-Russian authorities installed in the Ukrainian city of Energodar, which hosts the Zaporiyia nuclear power plant, have denounced Thursday an attack with a “kamizake drone” against an administrative building in the locality, an event that has ended without casualties.

The press service of the local authorities confirmed “an attempted attack against the civil and military administration” and detailed that the incident involved “a kamikaze drone with an explosive” that hit the building, according to the Russian news agency Interfax.

Thus, he said that the attack has caused a fire and added that emergency services are assessing the extent of the damage. The pro-Russian authorities have also denounced that the Ukrainian army has been carrying out almost daily attacks against the nuclear power plant and the city since mid-summer.

Experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) warned on Tuesday that the current situation at this nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe, is “unsustainable,” but so far the parties have shown no signs of making major concessions and have accused each other of endangering the safety of the facilities.
