Prosecutor’s Office asks Castillo’s wife to be banned from leaving Peru for 36 months for alleged corruption

The Peruvian Prosecutor’s Office has requested this Tuesday 36 months of prohibition to leave the country for the first lady, Lilia Paredes, and her brothers, Walter and David, for their participation in an alleged corrupt scheme led by the president, Pedro Castillo, of which the Minister of Transport, Geiner Alvarado, would also be part.

The measure also concerns businessman Hugo Espino, who on Friday was conditionally released after giving a statement on this alleged scheme with which the Government, in a fraudulent manner, was awarding public works contracts, according to the Peruvian newspaper ‘La República’.

According to the accusation, the first lady coordinated the delivery of these contracts, at all times under the knowledge of President Castillo, alleged ringleader, in collaboration with her sister Yenifer Paredes, who is accused of the crimes of criminal organization and money laundering.

Last Friday, August 19, President Castillo announced that his wife was “willing” to hand over her passport in the possibility that the Prosecutor’s Office would make this request.

“She is not going to leave the country at any time and has to submit not only to justice, but to prove her innocence”, said Castillo, who has denounced a judicial persecution with political overtones against him and his family.
