A Russian court has ordered the house arrest of journalist Marina Ovsyannikova, who in March interrupted a live broadcast of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and is now being targeted by the authorities for her critical views.
The court order, which is expected to be in force until October 9, is part of a case against the journalist for allegedly spreading false information about the Armed Forces.
Ovsyannikova, who has already received several fines in recent months, now faces between five and ten years in prison, according to official news agencies.
Russian President Vladimir Putin issued several decrees after the start of the military offensive in Ukraine to limit information about the war, which provided, among other measures, that there could be no talk of an ‘invasion’.
