British-Australian actress Olivia Newton-John dies

British-Australian actress and singer Olivia Newton-John died Monday at the age of 73 surrounded by family and friends at her Southern California ranch, her husband, John Easterling, said.

The Olivia Newton-John Foundation confirmed the news. “Olivia has been a symbol of triumph and hope for the past 30 years as she has shared her journey with breast cancer,” it has explained.

“Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with medicinal plants continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund dedicated to researching medicinal plants and cancer,” the organization added on social media.

The actress is known worldwide for starring in the 1978 musical film ‘Grease’ alongside John Travolta. Her role as Sandy catapulted her to fame with songs like ‘You’re the One that I Want’, ‘Summer Nights’ or ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’.

Precisely Travolta posted a message on social networks. “My dear Olivia, you have made our lives so much better. The impact you have had has been incredible. I love you so much. We’ll see you on the road and we’ll be together again. I’m yours from the moment I saw you and I will be forever! Your Danny, your John!”, Travolta has posted on Instagram.

Before ‘Grease’, Newton-John had had musical hits like ‘If Not for You’, ‘Let Me Be There’ or ‘Have You Never Been Mellow’. Then she made movies like ‘Xanadu’ and was consecrated with songs like ‘Physical’, from 1981.

In 1992 she was diagnosed with breast cancer, but it remitted. She was hospitalized again in 2013 and they managed to stop it, but it resurfaced in 2017.
