Just months after the debut of the Honor X8, the Chinese company is introducing the Honor X8 5G. The new phone is a small hardware refresh that retains the design lines of the original model, replacing the internal components with ones compatible with 5G connectivity technology. Unlike other similar models on the market, the X8 5G comes with a smaller screen, not a larger one.
Honor X8 5G retains design, but replaces many internal components
The Honor X8 5G now benefits from a 6.5″ IPS display, but only with HD+ resolution (1,600 x 720 pixels). The original model used a Snapdragon 680 processor, an older generation model that only integrated a 4G modem. The 5G version comes with a Snapdragon 480+, which, even if it doesn’t look like it at first glance, is more powerful than the previous processor. Even though it’s part of a lower series, the Snapdragon 400, the processor is built using newer technologies, bringing a performance boost.
The rest of the configuration is complemented by 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, as well as a high-capacity 5,000 mAh battery that charges quickly at 22.5W. The power button also houses the fingerprint sensor, while the teardrop-shaped notch integrates the 8-megapixel front-facing camera.
On the back, we’re dealing with a triple camera system. The 64-megapixel camera from the original X8 has been replaced by a 48-megapixel f/1.8 sensor. The other two cameras use 2-megapixel sensors and are dedicated to macro and portrait functions.
The phone will be released soon with black and blue color options, but no release date has been announced yet. The phone is currently listed on hihonor.com, but expect official announcements for each region in the near future, when we’ll likely get a price for this model as well.
