With the Worlds 2024 final taking place today, Riot Games is constantly announcing new developments in its plans for 2025. With numerous changes in the upcoming season, such as the recently announced First Stand, developer has confirmed that the Mid-Season Invitational will be held in Canada for the first time.
During a press conference ahead of the Worlds 2024 finals, Chris Greeley, Riot’s Global Director of Strategy, revealed the news, saying, “We are thrilled to announce that Canada will host next year’s Mid-Season Invitational.“
After a long absence of live League of Legends esports events in Canada, we couldn’t be more excited to bring international competition back to our North American fans. Canada will welcome ten ranked teams from our five regions, all fighting to secure their place in history and, of course, their place at Worlds.

Canada has not hosted a major Riot event in the past. League of Legends From the 2017 LCS Spring Finals., and fan requests to bring esports back to the country had grown louder and louder. More information on which city will host the Mid-Season Invitational in January 2025 will be announced.
The event will now be the second major international tournament on the calendar, after Riot also confirmed the tournament First Stand during the same press conference. Scheduled to take place from March 10 to 17, First Stand will be unlike anything players have seen to date. The tournament will follow a new selection system known as the Fearless Draft.
This system allows teams to select champions only once during each best-of-five series. Once a champion has been used, no team may select it again in any of the remaining games of that series.
