2021 was the year of import: what the INS data show about the registrations from the previous year

Interesting data on the Romanian registration market in 2021.

Registrations of road vehicles for passenger transport decreased by 16.8% in the fourth quarter of 2021 compared to the fourth quarter of 2020, to 126,711 vehicles, while the share of registrations of used imported cars was 73.3%, increasing by 1 , 6 percentage points compared to the same quarter of 2020, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

With regard to the new registrations of road vehicles for the transport of goods, there were decreases in all categories as follows: in the category of trucks, including special purpose road vehicles by 20.1%, in the category of trailers and semi-trailers by 15.3% and in the category of tractors with 5.3%. New registrations of new road vehicles for the transport of goods increased by 52.1% in the category of tractors and decreased by 7.1% in the category of trailers, semi-trailers and in the category of trucks, including special purpose road vehicles by 0.8%.

Compared to the third quarter of 2021, in the fourth quarter of 2021, new registrations of road vehicles decreased by 16.2% for passenger vehicles, and new registrations of road vehicles for the transport of goods, decreased by 13.7%.

Second-hand vehicle registrations have increased

Road vehicles classified in accordance with the European Pollution Standards, registered in circulation, comprised, at the end of the fourth quarter of 2021, 57.6% of vehicles with Euro 4, Euro 5 or Euro 6 pollution standards and 11 in proportion, 9%, vehicles with Non-Euro pollution norm.

For the car category, the largest share was held by vehicles complying with the European norm Euro 4, respectively 35.2%; for the category of buses and minibuses most vehicles, respectively 25.5% were classified in the Euro 3 norm, and for the category of mopeds and motorcycles, most vehicles, respectively 29.6% were classified Non-Euro.

Vehicles in compliance with the European Euro 3 norm predominated in the category of trucks in the proportion of 30.1%, those in compliance with the Euro 6 norm were predominant in the category of tractors in the proportion of 34.1%, while in the category of road vehicles for special purposes most vehicles, respectively 26.0% were classified in the Non-Euro norm.
