Zelenski applauds Russian oil price cap and calls for its extension to gas

Latest news on the war pitting Russia and Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski has applauded the G7 and EU consensus to impose a maximum price on oil from Russia, but is now confident that this measure will also be extended to gas.

Zelenski has stated in his evening speech that the oil price cap will, once in force, be “an important element in protecting civilized countries and energy markets from Russia’s hybrid aggression.”

However, according to Zelenski, “the price of gas must also be limited.” The Ukrainian leader thanked the president of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, for speaking in favor of this idea on Friday.

Zelenski stressed that the sanctions will contribute not only to curb the flow of money to Moscow, but also to “restore justice for all Europeans” in the face of “blackmail” from a Russia that would be inflating prices “artificially.”
