Makes you curious, but it’s better to ignore it: an unknown USB stick sticking out of a wall.
USB sticks can not only be very practical, but they can also contain malware. That’s why it’s usually not a good idea to use a USB stick if you don’t know its contents.
However, things potentially look completely different if you’re a tech YouTuber Mr. Easter
. In such a case, a USB stick sticking out of the wall can actually be a hit. We also like to jump into it because it’s all so wonderfully pointless, as we’ll see in a moment.
Apropos wonderfully pointless
: This also applies to our series of useless experiments with PC hardware. Topic of the last episode: What happens if you connect 14 mice to a PC at the same time?
. In the linked article you will also find a list of all other episodes in the series.
An unexpected find

According to mryeester, he unexpectedly noticed a USB stick walled up in a brick wall. No matter how great the curiosity this arouses may be, we cannot fundamentally recommend that you connect a laptop to a USB stick like this.
The YouTuber did it anyway, but in this case there’s probably no reason to worry. As you can see in the video embedded above, all that happens after connecting is an image of a brick wall appearing on the desktop.
As long as no unnoticed mischief is being done with the PC in the background, it is a harmless, almost philosophical joke. After all, what content could be found on a walled-in USB stick if not a (virtual) wall?
By no means an isolated case
There’s even an entire art project centered around putting USB sticks in walls. It’s called Dead Drops
.
You can find out more about this in the article There are hundreds of USB sticks sticking out of walls in Germany, but what are they there for?
.
If you can’t get enough of strange USB sticks, we recommend the following article: USB stick with the inscription “Free to copy, then pass on” discovered on the train, but what can be found on it?
.
Could you have held back your curiosity and not tried the USB stick? Or do you think you’re becoming weak like the YouTuber – provided you have a suitable notebook nearby? Do you know any other curiosities of this kind from the tech universe? Please let us know in the comments!
