Xiaomi has confirmed the launch of its next series of high-end devices in the Redmi range. Essentially, the K-series models are alternatives to Xiaomi’s high-end versions, with similar specs, small compromises and much more affordable prices. Expected are the K60 and K60 Pro models, which will integrate high-performance camera systems as well as top-end processors. The top model will even integrate a periscope camera with zoom, a first for this product series.
Redmi K60 and K60 Pro will be two high-end models with more affordable prices
The launch date for Xiaomi’s Redmi K60 series is set for December 27 at 7pm in China. The phones have already been spotted in stores in official boxes, suggesting that the first customers could get their hands on them before the end of the year. However, it’s hard to say when the K60 models will arrive in Europe, given that these launch events are exclusively dedicated to China.
The image confirming the launch date reveals part of the design of one of the models. The Redmi K60 will feature a rectangular camera system with three lenses, one of which is periscopic, the main camera will integrate optical stabilization, while an infrared sensor can be seen at the top for remote control functions. Xiaomi is one of the last companies to offer this on mobile devices.
Next, we can see that the back has a “carbon” texture, but this is covered with what appears to be either glossy transparent plastic or glass. Given that this is the Redmi series, it’s probably plastic to cut down on production costs. Another interesting detail would be the speaker grill on the top of the device, which suggests that the phone will benefit from real stereo speakers, not an amplified call speaker as most manufacturers offer.
The major difference between the Redmi K60 and K60 Pro is expected at the processor level. While the base model will most likely use MediaTek’s Dimensity 8200 chipset, the Pro variant is expected with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Pricing and the rest of the details will be revealed next week.
