Xiaomi has officially announced the new 12T smartphone series, covering the premium area for the second half of 2022. They benefit from high-end hardware specs, but don’t go into the “Ultra” zone, offering new technologies and high performance at prices under €1,000. The biggest new addition is, of course, the 200-megapixel camera on the Xiaomi 12T Pro, but the non-Pro model also offers enough to remain competitive in its price zone.
Xiaomi launches its second 200-megapixel camera phone on the market
The Xiaomi 12T Pro is definitely the “star” of the new series, benefiting from the highest specifications. We have a large 6.67″ OLED panel display at 120Hz with unconventional 1220p resolution and 12-bit Dolby Vision support with flat edges. The curved phone trend seems to be starting to fade away, with only a few companies insisting on adopting this design on their premium models. However, this screen sacrifices brightness in favour of richer colours: 500 nits in normal conditions and 900 nits in HDR.
The configuration is completed by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, 8 or 12 GB RAM and 128 GB or 256 internal storage, a 5,000 mAh battery with very fast charging at 120W and stereo speakers tuned by Harman/Kardon, also compatible with Dolby Atmos.
The camera, however, is the most interesting element of the phone, featuring a 200-megapixel sensor for wide perspective. The other two cameras are mid-range, however, with 8 megapixels ultrawide and 2 megapixels macro. The front camera benefits from 20 megapixel resolution. The price, however, is not very high considering the specifications: 3,799 lei.
Xiaomi 12T offers same design but different configuration
The “standard” Xiaomi 12T, however, comes with a rather different configuration. The 12T is based on the Dimensity 8100 Ultra, a new version of MediaTek’s high-performance processor, also in 8+128 or 8+256 configurations. The 5,000 mAh battery still charges at 120W, but the cameras get a slight downgrade. The two ultrawide and macro secondary cameras are the same, but the main one drops to 108 megapixels.
Both models are built with Gorilla Glass 5 with matte texture on the back, and both come with a special warranty that ensures screen replacement within the first 6 months in case of damage. The phones also come with 3 months of YouTube Premium included. The Xiaomi 12T is priced at 2,799 lei.
