World’s most powerful camera sensor captures images for the Las Vegas Sphere -.

While you may not have been to Las Vegas to see the Sphere in person, you are undoubtedly well aware of its existence thanks to the countless ways it has been used to market video games and other products since its opening. But how does it actually work? What does the Sphere use to capture the 16K x 16K footage it displays?

TechRadar has reported that the Sphere is essentially powered by what is called the world’s most powerful commercially available camera sensor. This ultra-high-resolution camera, known as the Big Sky, can capture images at 316 million pixels and at 120 frames per second.

It does this by using no less than an 18K sensor said to be seven times larger and 40 times higher resolution than the sensors in ordinary cameras, so needless to say it is a very impressive piece of technology.
There was no mention of how much the sensor cost to develop and produce, but the Sphere itself would cost $2.3 billion to build.
