Why I use a fan in winter and why I especially rely on this model!

When I tell my friends that I use my fan even in the cold seasons, they often give me the bird, but there is a good reason for it.

When I tell my friends that I use my fan even in the cold seasons, they often give me the bird, but there is a good reason for it.

When you come home freezing outside in five degrees and gray skies, the last thing on your mind is turning on a fan. You turn up the heat, snuggle up on the sofa and yet your feet somehow remain cold while your head glows. I used to think that fans belonged in the basement in winter. Until I realized that something like this makes an incredible amount of sense in the cold season, not to cool you down, but so that you don’t waste money unnecessarily.

Why your heating alone often fails

The whole thing has less to do with magic and more to do with a simple principle from physics class: Warm air rises. The scenario in your home probably looks like this: The heating is on, the warm air moves straight towards the ceiling and makes itself comfortable there. But you’re stupidly sitting downstairs on the sofa. So you have a sauna upstairs and ice feet downstairs. Without help, the following happens: You keep turning the heating up because you want it to be warm downstairs. But the energy essentially dissipates unused under the ceiling.

The fan as a “heat distributor”

I use my new fan for exactly this problem. It ensures that the air in the room stays moving. It pushes the warm air hanging under the ceiling back down towards you. At the same time, the cool air is whirled up from below. Feel free to try it out yourself. The whole room becomes evenly warm after a few minutes. You no longer have to turn the heater all the way up because the heat finally reaches where you are sitting. This actually saves on heating costs at the end of the month.

My best fan so far: The Dreo PolyFan 513S

This works particularly well if the fan doesn’t just blow straight ahead. I have that with me Dreo PolyFan 513S and this has a function that I have not seen before. Classic fans usually only swing monotonously from left to right. That helps a little, but it’s not really effective. The PolyFan moves horizontally and vertically. So it swings wildly in all directions.

If you put it in front of the heater, it really distributes the warm air throughout the entire room, into every corner, above and below. I noticed that the room seemed to be “warmed up” much more quickly without having to constantly get up and readjust the device.

Admittedly, the model has its price, but for regular users, whether in winter or summer, I think it is a really fair and good price. Apart from that, the material used is of the highest quality and not cheap plastic like the usual models. In addition, the Dreo has other gadgets like Timer, different modes and is height adjustable.

The fan heater also suddenly becomes efficient

If you use a small fan heater from time to time, you know the problem: thing on, heat stroke on your face for five seconds, thing off, immediately cold again. With the fan in the room, the localized heat is distributed immediately. So you have a pleasant warmth instead of the “hairdryer effect”.

So before you turn up the heating even higher and get annoyed about the additional payment: get the fan out again (or get a sensible one like the Dreo). It sounds wrong at first, but feels damn right in the living room.
