When HBO Max launches in Romania. Price and details on what happens to HBO Go subscribers

HBO Max, the streaming service launched by WarnerMedia in 2020, which replaces all other streaming services of the company, such as HBO Now and Go, is officially launched in Romania in 2022. I already knew this, but so far I have not had a date official launch. However, the company activated today, February 1, 2022, the web page of the service, where it offers complete details about the availability in Romania, as well as the price at which the service will be available with us.

HBO Max will launch at a special price for those who subscribe in the first month

Starting with March 8, 2022, users in Romania will be able to subscribe to the HBO Max service. It will be available at a price of 4.99 euros, ie 25 lei, but those who subscribe before the end of March will benefit from a special offer. Both new subscribers and those who are already subscribers to HBO Go will be able to subscribe to HBO Max for 3.30 euros per month, ie around 17 lei.

This offer is available indefinitely, which means that as long as you have an active HBO Max subscription, without canceling it, you will benefit from this special price. Basically, if you never cancel it, you will benefit from the special price. But what is written on the official page in small letters is that the basic price of the subscription may change over time. So that price of 5 euros could increase over time. However, the 33% discount will also be valid for the new price. Your HBO Max subscription is monthly, so you can unsubscribe at any time if you no longer wish.

There is also the option of an annual subscription, at a special price, which charges you for 8 months of subscription for 12 months of access. It will be introduced after March 31.

What’s up with HBO Go

HBO Go subscribers will be automatically transferred to HBO Max, even if they have a separate HBO Go account, or if they have access to the service through one of the telecom operators that offer the HBO package. Basically, the transition between services will be fast.

The company also announces that once the HBO Max app is released on TV and smartphone app stores, the HBO Go app will no longer be available.

What content will be available on HBO Max

The content that will be available on Max seems to be in common with what Go has been offering so far, with the mention that it will also benefit from exclusive movies and series, which will probably not reach TV. Moreover, HBO Max offers high quality playback, with 4K and HDR resolution for new movies and series, something that HBO Go could not offer.

According to the official website, the service will provide access to several “channels”: HBO, which will include classic TV productions, Max Originals, for exclusive content, WB, which will include all movies and series made under Warner Bros. Studios, DC , for movies and series with superheroes from this universe, Cartoon Network Collection, Looney Toons, Scooby-Doo! & Friends and Cartoonito.
