HBO has released the first footage from The Last of Us, the upcoming adaptation of the famous video game franchise of the same name.
Although quite brief, the teaser gives audiences the first key details on the roles played by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. They will have to embody the post-apocalyptic survivors Joel and Ellie respectively.
“Everyone I cared about has either died or left me,” Ellie can be heard saying in this teaser.
“You have no idea what loss is, really,” Joel replies, in a rather distant tone.

The footage shows Joel and Ellie walking across a snowy bridge, investigating a rather strange-looking fungus, and generally doing their best to survive situations you don’t come across every day in everyday life. Viewers also get their first glimpse of Nick Offerman as Bill, a character who forms an odd alliance with Joel and Ellie in the original video game as well.
The video in question is a collaborative one, switching between several returning series on HBO Max, such as Succession, His Dark Materials, Los Espookys and Avenue 5, as well as some new footage from The White Lotus and The Idol series. “The Last of Us” is the latest production to be featured in this mix.
The series in question is co-created and executive produced by Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann, the latter of whom is also mentioned as the co-president of Naughty Dog, the video game studio behind the original series. Carolyn Strauss, Evan Wells, Asad Qizilbash, Carter Swan and Rose Lam are also executive producers.
It remains to be seen how well the new HBO series will live up to expectations. The job of adapting a video game is a pretty tough one, as we already know.
