Focus Features has released a trailer for the new sports comedy film starring Woody Harrelson. The film is called Champions.
Champions tells the story of Marcus Marakovich (played by Harrelson), a former basketball coach. Marcus is required by the court to coach a team of disabled players as community service. Although reluctant at first about this team, he soon learns that the potential really does exist.
Woody Harrelson returns to the niche that made his name
As previously mentioned, Marcus doesn’t see much potential in this team at first, believing that the players aren’t coached enough to progress and, it seems, will have to confront his own demons in the process. He begins, over time, to form bonds with the team, but also with Alex, the sister of one of his players.
The team’s growing success attracts public attention, which may lead to another chance for him to coach in the NBA.
Woody Harrelson needs no introduction, he has a rich career behind him with roles in Star Wars: A Solo Story and Venom: Let There Be Carnage, among many others.
His career also began in the sports comedy niche, most notably in 1986’s Wildcats. Champions would feature Harrelson’s return to basketball after starring in White Men Can’t Jump and Semi-Pro, though this time he would be a coach, not a player. He has also distinguished himself in Edge Of Seventeen and Kingpin.
The good news is that the actor looks in top form in the Champions trailer and proves he can have chemistry with both veteran actors and newcomers alike.
In case you like this kind of movie or maybe you’re a Woody Harrelson fan, know that Champions will be released in theaters on March 24, 2023. It remains to be seen if the film will live up to expectations.
