Twitter will allow editing of tweets already posted, but only for Twitter Blue subscribers

Although only responding to requests from its own users for years, Twitter has sparked a tsunami of criticism by announcing it will allow editing of tweets already posted. The argument would be that such an option erodes one of the basic pillars of trust given to the micro-blogging platform. Namely that information already distributed can no longer be altered from its original form. And there are many cases where a simple “typo” slipped into a tweet distributed from a well-known user’s account has been the starting point for heated controversy and even news stories on media platforms.

Rubbing salt in the wound, Twitter administrators decided to offer the feature as a privilege granted to Twitter Blue subscribers. In other words, to be able to edit your tweets that are wrong or have become “awkward” in the meantime, you’ll have to pay a subscription fee of $4.99 per month. The good news is that the premium package comes with other benefits. For example, you can save various Tweets in lists called “collections”, which can be organised by category. That way, you’ll be able to quickly go back to specific posts on the social network. Then you have access to customise your profile colour and the icon displayed in your phone’s menu. There’s a limited selection of colours for personalisation: six for the profile and eight coloured icons.

Also on the list of benefits is Undo Tweet, which lets you quickly delete a tweet if it was sent by mistake.

Important to know, edited tweets will be handled in the same way as on other platforms (e.g. Facebook. Thus, an edited tweet is marked as “Edited” as soon as it has been modified from its original form, the label attached next to the publication date ensuring that no reader with minimal experience of using the micro-blogging platform will miss the edited information label.
