The chart was compiled by fans
According to a top chart by Screen Rant, Top Gun: Maverick was voted best film of the year by fans.
The Batman, the seventh highest-grossing film of the year, and Everything Everywhere All At Once, A24’s highest-grossing film of all time, also received strong fan support, along with Avatar: The Way of Water and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Even though Top Gun: Maverick is technically a sequel, it also works perfectly as a standalone film, especially for younger audiences who have no connection to the original.
It also helps that Tom Cruise, who is one of the most beloved actors of all time, returns to reprise his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.
Basically, the sequel delivers all the promised stunning aerial sequences, delivered through the skill of Tom Cruise and director Joseph Kosinski, who preferred him over CGI.
Beyond the stunts, in Top Gun: Maverick there’s a surprisingly heartwarming story involving Maverick and Rooster, as well as Ice Man, played by Val Kilmer. It’s not often that a blockbuster film captivates both critics and audiences of all ages like Top Gun did: Maverick, and for that, it deserves to be crowned the best film of the year.
