We all know the problem: we want to change the transmitter or make the film louder, because the remote control suddenly no longer reacts. This can be due to all kinds of opportunities.

We also show five quick solutions on how you can get the trigger back to work.

1. Check the batteries

The most likely is that the batteries of your remote controls are empty. Before you exchange them, you have two ways to test whether it is at all.

  1. Press the on/off switch of the remote control and see if the LED flashes. If it doesn’t, the juice is empty.
  2. You can check the charging status of the remote control using the settings of modern smart TVs.

If you are sure that the batteries are empty, they replace them with a few new ones and the problem is solved.

Should you only replace one of two batteries? No, because the energy is evenly distributed on the batteries and it discharges at the same time.

How long do new batteries last in a remote control? Philips writes of a lifespan of around six months. However, functions such as Bluetooth or microphone use affect the batteries.

2. Pair the remote control again

Smart remote controls are often connected to the television via Bluetooth. This usually happens automatically or with the initial setup.

It may be that the remote control loses the connection to the TV or that it comes to dropouts. Then it helps to re -pair them with the television. There are usually two options for this.

  1. Use a shortcut. It is different for every brand. With Samsung’s Smart remotes, for example, you have to hold the return and the Play/Pause key for three seconds at the same time.
  2. Use the settings on the TV. In the case of a couplable remote control, you will find a corresponding menu to the settings. Navigates there and connects the trigger and television.

Once you have done everything correctly, a step-by-step instructions should appear on the TV screen, which you just have to go through for re-coupling.

3. Look for obstacles

As a rule, remote controls with the TV communicate via an infrared signal. If this signal is blocked by somewhat, it does not reach the recipient of the television and you cannot switch.

What can the infrared signal block? First and foremost large pieces of furniture such as the coffee table or part of the interior. The culprit could also be smaller if he happened to be in front of the infrared receiver of the TV.

However, it does not always have to be a physical obstacle. If dust or dirt adhere to the infrared sensor – on TV or the remote control – this can also affect functionality. Both clean in this case.

You may also be too far away from the television Or in the wrong angle, so that the signal does not reach the recipient. Remember that it usually sits on the lower side of the housing.

4. Check the infrared signal

People cannot see infrared light, so we do not notice if, for example, the remote control does not send out none because it may be broken or empty.

There is a very simple way to check whether the remote control releases infrared light at all.

  1. Turn on the camera of your cell phone.
  2. The upper end of the remote control on the camera lens.
  3. Keep any button down.

You see the infrared lighteverything is fine and the error is not due to the batteries.

You don’t see the infrared lightthe batteries are probably empty – or the transmitter does not work. In this case you have to exchange the remote control.

5. TV restart

If all the previous tips do not help, you are well advised to completely separate the TV from the electricity and carry out a factory reset. This resolved any software problems.

  1. Switch off your TV as usual.
  2. Pull the plug and wait a few seconds.
  3. Put the plug back into the can and switch on your TV.
  4. If the remote control still does not go after the restart, you use the buttons on the TV to go to the menu if available.
  5. Search in the settings Reset television and leads the reset. A notice: Depending on the manufacturer and model, this option is different and is located elsewhere.

You can do that if the remote control is broken

You have tried all solutions, but the remote control still doesn’t react? Then you have to replace the pusher for good or bad.

  • Contact the manufacturer. Usually this goes on the website.
  • Is given a guarantee casethen the manufacturer usually exchanges the remote control and send you a new one.
  • Is not given a guarantee casethe manufacturer will offer you to buy a new copy.

There is another optionto replace the remote control. There are now remote control apps for the cell phone (Google Store), which means that a TV remote control can be simulated with the mobile phone. Then you simply use your smartphone to control the television, change programs or access apps such as Netflix.

Remote control apps are often free of charge with advertising and not just a good alternative if the handle has given up the mind, but also if you are tired of TV remote control.
