NVIDIA RTX Remix Runtime Open Source now available
RTX Remix, NVIDIA’s innovative new modding platform for remastering classic DirectX 8 and 9 games with RTX technology features such as path tracing, NVIDIA DLSS and AI-enhanced textures has a key component open-sourced and it is available today.

RTX Remix, part of the NVIDIA Studio app suite, consists of two core components that work together to enable modders to remaster classic PC games: the RTX Remix creator toolkit and a custom RTX Remix runtime.

The RTX Remix creator toolkit, built on NVIDIA Omniverse and used to develop Portal with RTX, allows modders to assign new assets and lights within their remastered scene and use AI tools to rebuild the appearance of each asset. The RTX Remix creator toolkit Early Access is coming soon.

The RTX Remix runtime takes a game scene and replaces assets during playback, while injecting RTX technology, such as path tracing, DLSS 3 and Reflex, into the game. Mod developers have already used Portal With RTX’s RTX Remix runtime to create experimental ray-traced scenes in numerous classic games.

The RTX Remix runtime is available today on GitHub with a permissive MIT license. Modding is all about community and offering an open source RTX Remix runtime will help mod developers extend Remix compatibility to even more classic PC games, in addition to expanding the types of mods that can be made when the RTX Remix creator toolkit is released.
