The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine has approved this Monday to declare a state of emergency at the national level due to the upturn in tensions with Russia in the east of the country, a measure that must still receive the support of Parliament for its entry into force .

The announcement was made by the body’s secretary, Oleksiy Danilov, who stressed that the measure would not come into force in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, the epicenter of the conflict for eight years, as reported by the Ukrainian news portal Ukrinform.

Likewise, the Ukrainian Ministry of the Interior has indicated in a message on Telegram that new restrictions are being introduced in the border areas of the country, including a ban on staying in them at night and the suspension of road traffic outside the road network that take to the border.

The Ministry has highlighted that measures have also been imposed to prevent the presence of foreigners in these areas and control the use of radio stations, control the overflight of unmanned devices and make videos or photographs of security elements at the border.

On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin recognized the independence of both Ukrainian regions and hours later ordered the entry of the Russian Armed Forces into them as part of a “peacekeeping mission”, some decisions harshly criticized by the majority of the international community.
