The merger of Honda and Nissan no longer goes through -.

There have been plans for some time to see Honda and Nissan come together and merge into one mega car-making titan. However, this will no longer be the case as the merger has been called off and the previously signed agreement has also been terminated.

This was confirmed in a press release in which Nissan noted: “both companies concluded that, in order to prioritize speed of decision-making and implementation of management actions in an increasingly volatile market environment on the way to the era of electrification, it would be most appropriate to discontinue discussions and implement the [memorandum van overeenstemming] terminate.”

With this decision in mind, the two companies will instead work together as part of a strategic partnership that hopes to improve their intelligence and electric vehicles.

It must be said that with this merger dead in the water, hopes for a tripartite partnership between Nissan, Honda and Mitsubishi also came to an end. The latter company is owned by Nissan, which means that now that the merger is off the table, Honda and Mitsubishi will also have to remain content with being partners.
