11 Bit Studios today released their highly anticipated game The Alters on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. In addition, you can play the game immediately via Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass. This sci-fi survival game is not just about escape, but mainly about how far you are willing to go to survive.
Survive by cloning yourself
In The Alters, you play as Jan, who discovers after a crash landing on an alien planet that he can only survive by creating alternate versions of himself-the so-called “alters.” These clones come from parallel lives that he himself has never lived. Although they are essential to maintain the mobile base and escape, it is not so simple: in fact, some clones feel they are better than the original Jan. This leads to tension, ethical dilemmas and deep questions about identity and empathy.
Do you treat your clones respectfully, or do you see them simply as tools for survival? The choices in The Alters determine not only the course of the game, but also your own view of morality and responsibility. Survival has never been more personal.
A unique concept, years in the making
The Alters has been in development since 2020 at the ambitious 11 Bit Studios, known for titles such as Frostpunk and This War of Mine. Game Director Tomasz Kisilewicz emphasizes how proud he is of the development team’s efforts:
“With the growth of our team, the pandemic that forced us to work differently and the usual challenges of game development, the past few years have been both creatively rewarding and challenging. Yet we have managed to stay true to our original vision, and we look forward immensely to seeing how players will experience the world of The Alters.”
The Alters is available now.
