Dacia continues to be the main car manufacturer on the Romanian market, in terms of production, but, if we look at sales, Ford has come very far behind. From one point of view, the impact of the semiconductor crisis was inevitable for the Mioveni manufacturer, and the consequences were not long in coming.
According to data aggregated by AutomotiveNews Europe, based on a report by the Data Force, in Europe, Ford Puma registrations exceeded those of Dacia Duster. The news is even worse for the Mioveni giant, as the classic Duster has been a sales leader for many years. As a reference, at the end of last year, the B-class SUV from Dacia occupied the fourth position in the ranking on this segment, with 145,309 units registered on the European market. At the end of 2020, the situation was similar, all four, but the registrations were a little less, 138,786.
Who makes the law in Europe for class B SUVs
In both 2020 and 2021, sales of class B SUVs were dominated by the same three models, Renault Captur, Volkswagen T-Roc and Peugeot 2008. From year to year, however, there were some changes. In 2020, the occupants of the podium were, in order, Renault Captur (178,049 units), Peugeot 2008 (156,189 units) and Volkswagen T-Roc (148,850 units). A year later, in 2021, Peugeot 2008 (194,807 units) became the leader, followed by Volkswagen T-Roc (165,706 units) and Renault Captur (158,747 units).
In terms of competition from the Ford Puma and Dacia Duster, both in the same class, Ford’s SUV was ranked 6th in 2020 with 118,086 cars registered in Europe. In 2021 it rose by five, with 133,540 units. However, the year 2022 is coming with important changes in this area. After the first quarter, the 2008 Peugeot (39,959 units) is on the first position in the ranking, but Ford Puma is on the second place, with 38,857 units. Dacia Duster is on the third position with 34,882 copies. There is not a huge difference in sales between the two local producers, only 3975 units, but it is fascinating that the old man from Mioveni was overtaken by his younger competitor. Otherwise, Renault Captur dropped to 4 with 34,107 units, and Volkswagen T-Roc is down to 6, with 33,138 units.
