The right temperature in the office and home office
Of course, in Germany there are regulated regulations as to how warm or cold it can be in an office. In the technical rules for workplaces is regulated in point ASR A3.5 on eight crisp DIN A4 pages that for “light, sedentary work” a minimum temperature of 20° degrees gilt.
Luckily, my own rules apply in my private home office, because that would be far too cold for me.
Old house, new heating: why I had problems with the temperature
Our office is adjacent to an unheated stairwell and because the doors are almost always open somewhere due to my renovation work, it’s drafty. One thing makes it clear how cold it really is in our hallway: If we currently leave the door to our office open, the smart thermostats report an open window and lower the temperatures. When it feels like 5° degrees in the corridor, I don’t blame the tado° devices.
Since we recently connected our heating to a district heating network, radiator thermostats feel like they have to be turned up further to reach the same temperatures. This initially made it difficult for me to create a working heating plan.

The solution to cold hands and feet while working
In addition to the smart radiator thermostats, I also have the radio temperature sensor X from the new tado° range finally put to use. It can be set up just as quickly and easily as everything else in my test so far. If you are interested in the details of setting up and installing the thermostats in more detail, I have linked the relevant part of my long-term review below.
And what does the wireless temperature sensor X do now? In a larger room like our home office, the temperature on the radiators and in the room are often not the same. The wireless temperature sensor should be positioned centrally, similar to a room thermostat. For example on the wall near the light switch. There it measures the real temperature and you really get what you have set on the thermostat or in the schedule.
When I was playing around with the temperature sensor, I noticed something about the thermostats that I think is absolutely brilliant and that I haven’t seen before in any other thermostat: All smart radiator thermostats in the same room can be switched in the same way if desired. So you don’t have to run around the whole room and set the same temperature everywhere – the tado° X thermostats do this by themselves.
tado° also probably thought “Why only offer one solution when there are two?” If you have a similar problem, you don’t even necessarily need the wireless temperature sensor. In the app you can specify a correction value between the set temperature and the temperature in the room for each thermostat. All you have to do is measure the air temperature away from the radiators. For example, if you measure 20° even though the thermostat is set to 22°, you adjust the value by 2°.
Interim conclusion on tado° X and the new radiator thermostats
Our everyday life with the new smart helpers from tado° is just as easy as setting them up. With the new tado°
When more parts of my apartment are hopefully finished soon and I can test the rest of the new products, it will remain to be seen whether tado° has really presented the all-inclusive solution. But so far I have no doubt about it.
