LG UltraGear 27GR95QE is a 27″ OLED monitor with WQHD resolution and 240Hz refresh rate. While it’s marketed to gamers who want uncompromising performance, the product could just as well please any PC user, with the good OLED display offering both speed and enviable image quality.
Unlike other LCD-based gaming monitors, LG’s new monitor offers both the benefits of an unbeatable response time of only 0.03 ms (GtG), but also features more expected of monitors for image editing and multimedia consumption, such as 98.5% DCI-P3 color spectrum coverage and a native contrast ratio rated at 1.5 million to 1. Plus in exchange for the $999 price tag users also get AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync certification, ensuring a flawless gaming experience no matter which brand of video card they prefer. However the specs list also includes a small asterisk, mentioning the lack of dedicated hardware for either of these features.
As good as any respectable gaming monitor, the LG UltraGear 27GR95QE comes with stand offering 11cm of vertical adjustment, as well as front-to-back tilt within plus +/-20°.
Connectivity options include 2 HDMI ports and a DisplayPort (version not specified), along with a 2-port USB 3.0 hub.
At the same time, LG also launches the 45GR95QE, a gaming monitor based on an OLED display originally developed for TVs, offering similar performance and image quality characteristics, just on a much larger display area. Unfortunately, the luxury of a 45-inch OLED screen comes with the downside of a $1699 price tag.
LG isn’t the first display manufacturer to launch OLED monitors for gaming. The difference is that this time the product in question is not a simple adaptation obtained by commandeering an OLED panel originally developed for TVs, but one that appears as a truly native solution, both in terms of size and technical specifications, but more importantly in terms of cost. Thus, the LG GR95 is probably the cheapest OLED gaming monitor ever. And that’s with a very competitive package.
The new LG UltraGear 27GR95QE and 45GR95QE monitors can already be ordered by US buyers, but will not hit the European market until February 2023.
