There is good news for all fans with VR glasses at the beginning of the year. We're talking about VR games on the PC that aren't actually intended for VR.

Thanks to the Praydog UEVR mod, you are now able to relive many Unreal Engine 4 and 5 titles. The mod in question is now available as a public beta.

A notice: We have not tested the mod yet and are based on experiences from other articles such as mixed.de. If you have already gained some impressions of it yourself, please write us in the comments and share what seems to work particularly well for you.

Will this mod revolutionize the VR market?

Under the mixed article, some users commented on what they thought of the mod. Some are even very enthusiastic, like user Herbert Werters:

I love the mod. It's just awesome. Yes, I really only have high standards when it comes to resolution. But it doesn't matter. We can now play really cool games in VR and they are really playable until the end credits. This is so great.

Another user named pasfish111, on the other hand, appears a little more sober despite the positive mood:

If your interest is now piqued, you can take a look at this link on the mod provider's official website. Games that, according to mixed.de, work particularly well with this mod are Returnal, High on Life, Atomic Heart and Robocop.

According to other sources such as Eurogamer, many first-person shooters can be implemented particularly well in VR, in contrast to titles from the third-person view.

You can see an example of what it looks like when a title is played with the mod in this YouTube video:

Other games tested by Eurogamer:

  • Horizon Chase 2 (car racing game)
  • Ride 5 (motorcycle racing game)
  • Mortal Shell (Soulslike 3rd Person)
  • Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleased Ecto Edition

In their test video you can see that the picture in the car racing game is a bit jerky, but overall the title seems quite playable.

The motorcycle racing game makes you feel astonishingly glued to your bike – even if the controls probably require some practice. Mortal Shell's combat system works quite well for the most part, except for the cutscenes shaky be.

Ghostbusters, on the other hand, seems to be made for VR. In the video it looks absolutely natural to be able to look around everywhere and look for clues.

This is how it works according to the modders

On the Flat2VR website you will find a particularly detailed guide to using the mod.

Basically the process is very simple:

Step 1: Der Download via Github

Step 2: Open the UEVR console and select your game that runs on UE 4 or 5

Step 3: Set your settings and press Inject – and you should be able to see your game in VR.

As soon as the game appears in the glasses, you can make additional settings, such as the graphics, the configuration of the glasses and the fine-tuning.

The modders themselves recommend these games

What do you think about this mod? Have you already tried them? Are you die-hard VR fans? Which games with the Unreal Engine would you definitely like to try out in VR? Will this mod revolutionize the VR market or is it just a nice in-between gimmick that will give the VR market a bit of a boost? Feel free to write us your thoughts and ideas in the comments.
