Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown receives some tasty screenshots – That’s Gaming

KT Racing has revealed new details about Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, their new open-world racing game coming out in 2023 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC and Nintendo Switch. Check out the latest screenshots depicting Hong Kong Island in stunning detail.

Don’t let the game’s looks fool you, however. The 1:1 scale island offers a “varied and intense driving experience” where your first car may not be able to handle everything. Yet you can still explore the diverse environments, from off-road trails in the mountains to older towns and vast highways. There are also secret areas via routes that are “not always” on the map.

The developer also confirmed dynamic weather and time of day, which can affect your car’s performance. “For example, you can go from a sunny drive at dawn to a long night drive under stormy skies. Rain has a significant impact on your car’s behavior: you’ll have to adjust your driving style to avoid unexpected skidding and perhaps change your tires and gear ratios.

“Don’t forget to turn on your windshield wipers while waiting for the sun to return so you can put the roof back down! The day/night cycle is also realistic with different phases for sunrise, day, evening and night.” In all, there are more than 600 kilometers of roads to explore, although some adjustments have been made to emphasize and make driving easier.

As creative director Alain Jarniou reveals, the urban network “required some minor adjustments because of certain small streets that were very (too?) narrow. On the other hand, some major roads were slightly redesigned to make them more fun and adapted to very fast cars, while respecting the identity of Hong Kong Island.”

Some walking and hiking trails were also converted into “small mountain roads that a car can use.” As for scale, Jarniou says the island will take time to “reveal all its secrets,” so be ready for the long haul.
