While you can estimate how long it will take to finish a book based on the thickness of the remaining pages, the Amazon Kindle needs a different trick. The eReader uses a reading progress indicator to show you how much reading material you still have to do. We’ll tell you how to use this function.
How do I see the page number on the Kindle?
The Amazon Kindle only shows you the page number function if the eBook supports this function. A software version of at least 4.0 is also required to activate this function. In both cases, this is often the case by default and only in exceptional cases is it not set.
The reading progress offers you the following modes to choose from:
- Position in the book
- Page in the book
- Remaining in chapter
- Remaining in the book
- None
You can select and change by:
- Tap the top of the Kindle screen to reveal the options.
- Then tap the field
Aa Page display
. - Select
Font and page settings
out of. - Search in tab
To read
according to the reading progress settings.
The first two options show you how far you have progressed in the eBook in absolute numbers, while the third and fourth options are based on your current reading speed.
You can always find your current reading progress at the bottom left of the page.
If you select the last option, the progress indicator will disappear from the bottom of the page. You can easily switch between the different display options while reading by tapping the progress indicator in the bottom left.
This way you can switch to the next setting each time.
Why doesn’t my Kindle show page numbers anymore?
It is possible that you have deactivated the function inadvertently, but the format or software variant can also be a cause. The following steps can help:
- Check if your Kindle has the latest update.
- Check whether you have changed the function by mistake. To do so, go through the steps in the previous paragraph.
- Check whether your eBook allows a page numbering function. This can sometimes be the case with self-created eBooks.
How do I set the percentage on the Kindle?
Tap the bottom left of the display to see two pieces of information: the percentage of the book you have already read and the current position in the form of a number.
If you tap a second time, you will find out how many minutes you have left to read in the current chapter. If you tap a third time, the Kindle will show you how long you will probably need to read the entire book. If you tap a fourth time, no display will appear. The position numbers on the Kindle are comparable to classic page numbers.
Can you see how long you’ve been reading on Kindle?
Unfortunately, the Kindle itself does not directly show how long you have been reading in total, so there is no exact indication in minutes. However, there is a function to estimate your reading speed to show how many minutes are left in the chapter or book. You can also access Reading Insights to get statistics on your reading behavior.
To accurately record your reading time, you would need to rely on external apps or devices, such as reading tracker apps or a smartwatch, that can track your reading time.
Was sind Kindle Reading Insights?
Amazon stores your reading habits in the form of statistics in your account. The reason for this is to ensure the best possible synchronization, for example if you want to continue reading on your Amazon tablet instead of your Kindle. You can find the insights at https://www.amazon.com/kindle/reading/insights
You can see your reading information, such as titles read over the years, days read per month or even your records, such as the weekly record for the reading period.
How much do you use the reading progress function on the Kindle? Does it motivate you to know how much you have left? If so, do you use the percentage display or measure it based on your reading speed? We look forward to your comments and tips for great reading enjoyment.
