Samsung hires former Mercedes designer to model future Galaxy phones

Hubert H. Lee takes over as head of the MX Design Team, the division responsible for selecting designs for Samsung tablets and phones.

“I am excited to join a company at the forefront of mobile innovation and lead the team responsible for creating new mobile experiences through the art of design.”

With more than 20 years’ experience, the former Mercedes designer will work on modernizing Galaxy products, with his ideas influencing both the exterior design and key aspects of the One UI.

The change comes shortly after Samsung’s management announced the first-ever election of a woman to a president’s position at the company, with Lee Young-hee taking over as head of the Global Marketing Center for Samsung’s DX (Device eXperience) division, the department that oversees Samsung’s smartphone business. Lee Young-hee has been with Samsung Electronics since 2007, having been promoted to vice president in 2012. Prior to joining the company, Lee worked for the L’Oreal giant.
